Fred’s Variety Group at the Halo Bar

Saturday night me and AC went to see the Bent Boyz, a drag king troupe, at Attitudes. Now, I’m totally into chicks who look like guys, so you’d think a a drag king show would be right up my alley. I wasn’t really feeling it though, and we left early. Sometimes being a sober, straight man in a room full of dunk lesbians is NOT a good thing. The one cool part was that there was a wedding reception at the bar right before the show, this lesbian couple had gotten married and the groom was this total bull dagger in a tuxedo with a mullet, and the bride was this really hot femme in a white gown. Just seeing that was pretty cool.

This is the third drag show I’ve seen in so far this year, which makes it three more drag shows than I see in any typical year…

Ran into Sunyatta from Fred’s Variety Group at Mokabe’s on Saturday. AC is a big fan of their’s so I told Sunyatta we’d come to their gig at the Halo Bar on Sunday night.

Either being one of the few black, indie rock fans in St. Louis makes me memorable or Mark and Sunyatta are the sweetest people in the world or some combination thereof. I hadn’t seen either of them in almost a year, but when Sunyatta saw me from across the room at Mokabe’s she gave me this huge smile. Then after the show I went up to Mark to buy a CD, not expecting him to remember me at all, and he greets me with “Hey! Long time no see, how you been!” and we end up in this conversation and Sunyatta ends up posing for pictures for AC, and it’s all really cool.

It was a nice, laid back, normal person type weekend, which is what I needed after Chicago. I have like, nine pages of journals from Chicago that I at some point have to condense into something I can post on LJ. But, not today.

As usual my mind betrays me… I recognize her face, but do not remember her name!!! I remember that she was vivacious and lively… please send me an e-mail, tell me… I’m in a pique of chagrin… chuckle… tazia

are you near/on LJ?… my next question is “where” would I have met/known her? Wabash? Way Out? Mangia? I, and my memory truly is cow patties that don’t get ot fertilize the soil, think that maybe it was either Mangia or Way Out… but nothing comes to mind about “why”. Actually/logiclly/truthfully Way Out seems the more likely… tazia

She rocked the mic at Wabash a couple times. I’m sure you’ve seen her at all three venues. She’s married to Mark of the Highway Matrons.
