Raven Wolf

Raven Wolf

Inspired by the album cover for Hub-Tones.

I’m a big fan of the album covers that Reid Miles designed for Blue Note Records in the 50s and 60s. Along with the work that Vaughan Oliver did for 4AD in the 90s, I think it’s the most distinctive brand identity ever created for a record label. I wanted to take some photos inspired by Miles’ work with photographer Francis Wolff for Blue Note, so I hit up my old friend Raven Wolf C. Felton Jennings II, a very talented jazz musician, for a photo shoot.

A couple weeks after our shoot, Jazz Times did a really good article on how the mp3 format is threatening the legacy of jazz photography and album cover design.
