Artificial Sweetener by Andy Magee
This is a sculpture by my roommate, Andy. It’s a recreation of Andy Warhol’s famous portrait of Marilyn Monroe made entirely of Splenda, Equal and Sweet & Low packets. If I’m not mistaken the piece is about nine feet tall and nine feet wide and contains roughly a squillion individual packets of sweetener. Andy is one of the nicest, straightest, most normal guys I know and I dig his art very much, however he brings an obsessiveness and an attention to detail to his work that one might associate with a serial killer. I’ve lived with Andy for 6 years and he’s a great roommate, however if I’d seen his work before I’d met him, I never would have moved in with him.
