Brief stories about cool people # 2

I saw this band at a fund raiser for Word in Motion. they’re called something and the Messenger, but I can’t remember what.

The guitarist told a story, I think it was a dream, where he was walking through a field and met a strange man who started giving him advice. When he woke up he wrote down what the man had said and turned it into the song he was playing when I took this picture. He was staring at me the whole time he told the story (which was weird cause I was sitting to the far right of the audience), which made me listen to the song more carefully. We had this kinda weird connection…

  1. I have seen them playing at Frederick’s open Mike on Thursdays, check with Rocketparkboy to get their name……….. they are not bad at all!

  2. Peco and the Messenger is the name of the band. They play well and have excellent harmonies. The only unfortunate things about them are (a) they have a lot of great originals but rarely play them due to some irrational fear that people are going to steal them, and (b) every song they play is way too long – it isn’t uncommon for them to play a song with two and a half minutes’ worth of hooks for five or six minutes.

  3. I love artist who think that people are gonna rip them off.
Photographers not withstanding, I think this attitude is counter-productive. Until you’re signed with an evil corporation and selling thousands of copies, it’s all about getting you’re shit heard. The more you put out there the more you get back.
Art, at least on this level runs counter to capitalism.
Or as Michael Dean would say, “whoever dies with their stuff on the most hard drives, wins.”
