Naked in the great outdoors

After a rather calm weekend, I was driving from my apartment to my girlfriend’s place Sunday morning at around 5AM. There was this beautiful fog over Tower Grove Park, so I stopped and walked down to the park, took off my clothes and ran around naked in the fog. It was freezing, and my feet were soaking wet, so I quickly got dressed and started to drive off.

The fog was so beautiful; I decided to take some pictures of it from my car. Then I decided to walk back down to the park and take some pictures. The pictures turned out surprisingly well, but the moment was kinda lost since there were no people in them. So I set the camera down on a bench, took off my clothes again, set the autotimer, and ran out in front of the camera.

The first two attempts didn’t turn out cause I was moving too fast, out of eagerness to get my clothes back on. Finally, with the sun coming up and more traffic going by, I decided to give it one more shot before I gave up. I ran in front of the camera, struck a pose and just held it until I was sure the picture had been taken. I checked my camera and I had gotten the shot. About ten seconds after I put my clothes on two people on opposite sides of me came down separate paths walking their dogs!

  1. That is a really cool photo! I love the way the fog looks in black and white. Other than that, I like most of your photos you post in your journal. They seem to capture people looking natural and give me a feel for the subject.
That would have been pretty funny to hear what the random dog-walker had to say.

  2. really sucks that everyone is so uptight in this country and automatically think nudity is sexual. I hate living in the city and having to wear clothes! maybe I should move to Europe where there is at least nude beaches where noone minds.

  3. nicly done…makes me think of you as a conductor and the fog your band…you could title the shot:
    Symphony of the Fog…
    just my two pence…good work.

  4. Thanks.
I hadn’t thought of it that way. Now when I look at it, it sorta makes me think of that scene in Fantasia when Mickey Mouse is conducting the nature with the magic wand.

  5. Re: Wow…
Not so much the pictures…and not that I mind, I’m a naturist myself.
I was just reading through your journal and you seemed interesting and high on the intelligence level which is hard to find =)
    Thanks =)

“Welcome to the Picture Show” is a line from a Lenny Kravitz song. I use it on everyone who adds me, but in this case I can see how it might be taken. I’m a novice photographer at best, so I certainly wasn’t trying to brag.

  7. Re: Wow…
    I see =P
You can expect me to be the type to comment at least every entry…=P My journal isn’t so exciting due to the fact that I have no time anymore, but trust me when I have time it gets weird =P

  8. Aww, you’re in Tower Grove!
I woke up to that mist covered park so many times… and God, do I miss it. (Thanks for letting me wake up to it one more time)
Fabulous image–it feels so freeing 🙂

  9. Great picture! The only thing that sorta ruined it a little is the van and house in the background [although I have to admit, it adds a little risky feel to the picture..because you definitely have balls to do that…loving it]. Your pose and the fog make it such a dreamy pic. Well done. And cute hiney, haha.

  10. I thought about that, but decided against it.
In the color version of the photo you can see the car and the house better.
I actually like the fact that you can tell its an urban landscape in the background and not just somewhere in the woods.

  11. Thank you.
I see the arguments for and against the van and the house, but I still kinda like the idea of the city on the perimeter of this utopian scene.
I think I wanna play with that idea more in the future.

  12. I like the urban setting with the van and house. I love, love, love the shadows created on the undersides/backs of your arms and muscles. I love the pose, it’s got a powerful, “I am the mist, I am the forest” back-to-nature type feel. I think that this tone is actually helped more than hindered by the urban backround. But this may be because I see the pose as more active and powerful than passive and yoga-like.
However, the one thing I don’t like is that hole in the trees. It distracts me, the sky is too white and I just want to stare at the hole! Haha. I’m easily distracted, though.

  13. Arsenal and Morgonford
Sheeet, don make me miss my cozy little sunroom that I used to sit all sleepy-eyed in the morning staring out into Tower Grove’s trees. Hmmm, there have been many cozy rooms, tho’.
David, I am glad that you are running around in public naked. Makes me proud to be your chum.
Tower Groves Park, Henry Shaw, dogshit on my shoe, pagans, fags and lots of spooky little pavillions. Ah, Saint Louis.

  14. You know, you are the first person to ever get that. I have always wondered if anyone would pick that up. That part from “Midlife Crisis” just seemed to fit so well as the little tag line for my journal.
    😀

  15. The picture came out great. I like the haze/mist on the ground, and how well it sets off your legs The lines of your body and muscles also came out well.
