omg i love this!!! i want to make a movie with you!
THANK YOU So far the reaction in other LJ communities has been universally negative (one woman called me a moron). Your post totally brightened my day and put a smile on my face.
I laughed my ass off! and lamented that poor Ford Escort.
Re: THANK YOU yo she’s a moron. this movie had a smile on my face with a sinister’OH MY GOD” open mouth quality that I just love in art! LOLOL. fabulous!
I quite enjoyed that. In amused, horrified sympathy.
Re: THANK YOU I would be amused to see links to where you got negative reactions, ’cause I thought this was teh funny.
Re: THANK YOU Hmm… Perhaps when they’re finished protesting for abortion rights, they store the sticks attached to their placards up their asses rather than, say, in their closets? They seem to think you made this video as a political statement against women breastfeeding rather than just “This woman whipped out her boobies in front of me during a job interview and it broke my brain”
Re: THANK YOU That comment was just really, really out of line with what pro-choice is and with what pro-choice stands for. It is SO much more than just “abortion rights”. And not all of us protest, thank you. And a lot of us ASKED what the point of his video was, and got no response. I, for one, had no clue what the video was about.
Re: THANK YOU Please stop being on my side in sociopolitical issues. You make our side look bad. Thanks.
Re: THANK YOU I just really wish he would explain the video. I’ve probably made more chances in the past year than you have. I work incredibly hard in an incredibly conservative town, and I deal with enough flak from the far right: My car has been vandalized, Ive been called a whore, baby killer, etc. But we now have emergency contraception on campus, and we are getting a women’s crisis center where we need one. And you don’t want me on your side? Not everyone on the same side gets along. Get used to it.
Re: THANK YOU Once I was called a moron, I decided not to respond to any of the posts in ljforchoice because I wasn’t intereseted in get into a flame war where it’s 50 people vs. me. Also, I wasn’t interested in defending myself. My intial impulse was just to delete the post, but I figured that would be taking the easy way out and it would be better for me personally just to endure the criticism. I didn’t explain the video because I think it’s pretty self explanitory. The point was to tell a story. If I should explain anything it should be my reason for posting it in the ljforchoice community which was probably a mistake. I figured since 99% of the population has never worked in an abortion clinic or even knows what a crisis pregnancy center is, the people in the community would relate to it better than others. It never occured to me that people in the community would feel that they were being mocked or insulted, but it probably should have.
Re: THANK YOU Well, from what I understood of the video was that you had a problem with her breastfeeding during an interview. Now, granted, that wasn’t the most professional thing to do, and I would have waited until the baby was fed for the interview to begin. But do you think she could have been breast feeding the child for a reason? Not many men interview to work in women’s clinics. Maybe she wanted to see if you were comfortable with what you might be around. Now, that is just an *idea*. And we all know, I haven’t had some of the greatest ideas. And I don’t think calling you a moron was a good thing, either. A lot of the people in LJforchoice are jaded, though, and have their defenses up before they need to. It’s a pity that happens, but it’s also a pity that we need to fight as hard as we do.
Re: THANK YOU I’m sure you do great work. I’m sure you’ll do more for women’s reproductive freedom in the next week than I’ll do in my entire apathetic, slackery life. My problem is with the whole everything-is-a-cause mindset where it’s like you (and, for the record, this applies more to and than you, but I’m gonna keep going because I honestly have nothing better to do with my evening) actively seek out things to get offended about. There’s nothing anti-breastfeeding in that video. It’s just an amusing little video about an incredibly socially awkward moment for him, and he got responses that made it seem like the video ended with him on The 700 Club screaming “How dare that filthy whore take out her naughty pillows in public like that? That part of a woman’s body should be hidden away at all times!” That sort of thing drives away the center, ’cause they don’t want to be associated with people like that.
Re: THANK YOU Hello. I wasn’t offended by it, I just didn’t like it or find it quite realistic IN MY EXPERIENCE. Don’t characterize me as the evil upright uptight feminist. Kindly leave me out of it; I’m done here. (My apologies, David.)
… ………. Wow, that was so uncomfortable. I mean that in a wonderful way. I had to watch it twice because I was sooooo distracted by the woman’s nipple. I dont know what I would have done in your situation. I thought it was really great. I loved the writing and everything. The back story was perfect, it really pointed out that it wasnt the breast, or just the breast feeding but an over-all level of intimacy you were unsure of. Rather, the seemingly intimate situation. As you said, something you’d share with a future wife. I loved the end. The punishing yourself a tiny bit. Not lending any over-all judgment toward anyone but focusing on the absurdity of everything involved (The breast feeding, the urine sharing, and the christian funded child specialists). The film it was a kind, sweet, and humorous. It a fascinatingly absurd way. Thanks for sharing!
Re: THANK YOU WOW. The people on that thread make me nervous. They cant get past their own personal social/political beliefs to see the good-hearted humour in this situation. The one who resorted to name calling!? “moron”, I hate that. It’s not constructive or even interesting. I’ve been attacked verbally too (as you know) and I agree with you, You can totally take it. The film is not stupid, or judgmental. I think that people who originally disliked it may come around and realize just that…Once they get off their soap boxes.
